Love in the Golden Light – A Bahamas Sunset Story

From golden light to perfect silhouettes, a Cove Beach sunset turns one couple’s love story into timeless art.

Jenna Dwyer and her new husband share a kiss in silhouette during golden hour photography on the beach at The Cove, Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas, with the sun setting over the ocean, photo taken by Al Rahming.

I first met Jenna Dwyer and her new husband in the lobby of the Royal Towers at Atlantis. I’m always excited when I meet new people, especially couples. There’s something special about hearing their love stories—how they met, who made the first move, and those little “choosing signals” that tell you two people are meant to be together. It’s a reminder that no matter our backgrounds, we’re all connected by the same thing—our emotions.

I should probably kick myself for this, but I completely forgot her husband’s name. Funny enough, he was the one I spoke with the most. He led most of the conversation as we walked toward Cove Beach, giving feedback and sharing laughs along the way.

We had to move with purpose because the sun was already low and glowing in that perfect golden spot. I didn’t want to rush them, but I also didn’t want to lose that amazing light. Jenna was quieter and more reserved during our chats, but once the camera came out, she was a natural. Every pose flowed effortlessly. The light wrapped around her in the most flattering way, making my job even easier.

My original plan was to use the sun as a backlight, catching that gorgeous golden rim of light outlining their silhouettes. And I did—at first. But then something unexpected happened. During one shot, my flash didn’t recycle quickly enough. Instead of the bright, lit image I planned, I got the most perfect silhouette—clean, romantic, and glowing with the essence of the moment.

When I saw it on my screen, I instantly knew this wasn’t a mistake—it was magic. I showed Jenna the image, and she absolutely lit up. She and her husband loved it so much that I decided to focus more on capturing that look for the rest of the session.

We played with both natural light and flash, moving between bright, vibrant shots and dramatic, glowing silhouettes. The beach gave us everything we needed—soft sand underfoot, the sound of gentle waves, and a sky that transformed from golden to deep amber as the minutes passed.

What made this shoot truly special was how the couple’s emotions came through in every frame. From tender forehead-to-forehead moments to playful walks along the shoreline, it wasn’t just about posing them—it was about capturing how they felt in that exact moment.

By the end, we had created a collection that told their love story in light, shadow, and smiles. For me, it was the perfect mix of technical skill and natural connection. And for them, it was a memory they could keep forever—a slice of love in paradise, framed by one of the most beautiful sunsets the Bahamas has to offer.
