This photo session almost didn’t happen. It rained hard just before we were supposed to start. I thought we might have to cancel. But the skies cleared just in time, and even though the day stayed overcast, the weather held up long enough for us to make it work.
Monica reached out to me weeks ahead of her trip. She’s an experienced traveler, and the Bahamas was next on her list. She had already visited a few Caribbean islands, so driving on the left side of the road didn’t bother her at all. She handled it like a pro.
The session was really about her son. Monica wanted to collect as many memories as possible for him. Her fiancé came too. Right away, I could tell he was military. The way he moved, how he paid attention to his surroundings, and the way he carried himself said it all. I noticed, and we connected on that.
I’ve got kids of my own, so I know how to work with them. You can’t make a kid pose for an hour and expect magic. Instead, I turned the session into playtime. We ran around, laughed, and just had fun. That’s how we got those smiles.
In the end, they were happy with how everything turned out. And I was worn out, in the best way.
Monica wanted her son to leave the Bahamas with something he could always remember. I think we did that.
