A few weeks ago, I got a message from Elizabeth. She wanted to book a photoshoot near Nassau cruise port with her family. She was excited, sweet, and full of great energy. We stayed in touch the whole time before the session, messaging back and forth. Finally, the big day arrived.
I met Elizabeth, her husband, their son, and their daughter Lily near Señor Frog’s, right by the cruise port in Downtown Nassau. The weather was perfect — sunny with blue skies. Everyone was smiling. We greeted each other like old friends and walked over to Pompey Square to start the session.
We began with a few warm-up shots, but something didn’t feel right. Lily seemed quiet. Then I noticed her wiping her eyes — was she crying?
That’s when her dad asked, “Do you know where we can get some ice?”
I was confused for a second. Ice? During a photo session?
Then he told me what happened — Lily had slammed her finger in a door onboard their cruise ship just before they came to meet me. Her finger was swollen and hurting badly. She was trying to push through, but the pain was just too much. She looked faint and needed medical help.
We had to stop the session. Her family rushed her back to the ship so she could be checked at the infirmary.
We agreed to try again later in the evening.
Thankfully, there were no broken bones. The ship’s doctor gave her medicine for the pain, and after resting a bit, Lily was ready to give it another shot.
And wow — when she came back, it was like nothing ever happened!
Lily absolutely stole the show. Her smile was big and bright. Her energy was amazing. We walked down Bay Street and she was glowing in every single frame. Her family was so proud of her, and I was too.
We took photos in front of colorful Bahamian buildings, the Straw Market, and under the sunshine that makes Nassau so magical.
This was more than just a regular photoshoot near Nassau cruise port — it was a memory that will last forever. It reminded me that things don’t always go as planned, but with a little courage (and a lot of heart), beautiful things can still happen.
Meeting the Dalgard family was a true joy. They were kind, easygoing, and full of love. And Lily? She reminded us all how strong a young girl can be.
No matter where you’re from, we’re all the same deep down — looking to make memories, laugh together, and share special moments with the people we love.
Thanks again, Elizabeth and family. I’ll always remember this one.
