A Perfect Nassau Moment

The Erks Family Story

Family of five posing on white wooden gazebo with decorative X-pattern railings at Margaritaville Beach Nassau, parents and three children in coordinated outfits, photo taken by Al Rahming, vacation photographer in Nassau Bahamas

So there I was at Margaritaville in Nassau, and I’m not even kidding – this beach was tiny! Like, I’ve shot all over the Bahamas, but this little strip of sand had me scratching my head thinking, “How am I gonna make this work?”

Then I meet the Erks family from Colorado, and they’re just the sweetest people. The kids are bouncing around, the parents are relaxed and happy, and I’m still staring at this postage stamp of a beach like it’s some kind of puzzle to solve.

But you know what? Sometimes you’ve got to roll with it. That wooden deck? Perfect. The cute little gazebo? Even better. Before I knew it, I was seeing possibilities everywhere except the actual beach!

The funny thing is, we knocked out the shoot pretty quickly once I got my bearings. But then we just kept talking – and talking. These folks could not stop raving about Colorado Springs, and honestly, hearing about mountain living while we’re standing in paradise was pretty cool. The kids were cracking us all up the entire time, just being their hilarious selves.

By the time that golden light started hitting, I realized we’d made magic out of what seemed like nothing. Sometimes the smallest spaces give you the biggest surprises, and the Erks reminded me why I absolutely love what I do here in Nassau.
