When Donesha Grant and her husband flew into Nassau from Virginia, they were expecting more than a vacation. They were expecting their first child. Staying at Atlantis Paradise Island, they decided to book a maternity shoot with me to mark this new chapter. What started as a photo session turned into something much more meaningful.
We began the shoot on the beach just as the sun softened. Donesha stepped out in a long white gown, glowing with joy. She walked barefoot along the sand, smiling, cradling her belly. You could feel the love in the air. Her husband stood beside her, proud and excited, soaking in the moment. They laughed, hugged, and made the whole session easy and natural.
As we moved around Atlantis, the vibes got even better. From walking the shoreline to relaxing in the sand dunes, their bond was strong. We even stopped at the resort’s giant chessboard for a fun moment. That shot, full of laughter, might be one of my favorites. By the time we finished at the poolside area with a sweet kiss under the palms, I felt like I wasn’t just their photographer. I was part of the story.
During the shoot, I asked Donesha about her last name. “Grant” is a big name in the Bahamas, and I told her to look into it. She might be more connected to these islands than she thinks. Funny enough, her husband looked just like one of my old high school friends. I showed him a picture, and he was shocked. We laughed and started wondering if he had any Bahamian roots too.
That’s the beauty of shooting in the Bahamas. It’s more than palm trees and pretty beaches. It’s about connection. Whether it’s to the land, the people, or the moment, something always feels familiar. Real. Personal.
If you’re planning to visit Nassau, whether for a babymoon, a family trip, or a romantic getaway, I’d love to help you turn your visit into lasting memories. I offer family portraits, beach sessions, and more across Atlantis, BahaMar, and Airbnb locations throughout the island.
